Following a career in nursing, D.J. Brandon, "Deb," set out to turn her dream of writing stories for kids into a new career. The West 44 Books' Graveyard Gruber chapter book series followed. Now, with Tell Me Why the Jack Pine Grows, (West 44 Books 2024), Brandon has written her first novel-in-verse for middle-grade readers. Residing with her husband in the western New York town where she grew up, Brandon is the mother of two grown children and is grandmother to five, who inspire her writing every day.
